BONAFIDE BROWS
FAQ
does it hurt?
That all depends on where you go to get your service done. I personally have had a horribly painful Combo Brow done on me with NO ANESTHETIC!! Even though I have plenty of tattoos, I will never forget the pain of having my brows done. As a Nurse, Pain Management is one of my top priorities for my clients. I use two top quality, medical-grade topical anesthetics, one before the procedure and another one during the procedure to make sure you stay as numb as possible. Although everyone's skin and pain tolerance is different, I do my absolute best to ensure your session is as pain free as possible.
How long does it take?
I start every appointment with a full consultation, during which time we talk about brow shape, style, color, size, etc. to make sure we are both on the same page about your desired brows. Then we spend about 20-30 minutes mapping your new brows and numbing the area. You will sit with the topical anesthetic on for about 20 minutes and during that time, I will go over all of your brow aftercare, do's and don't's and what's in your aftercare kit. Once you are nice and numb, then we start the actual procedure. Altogether, you can expect your appointment to take about 2 hours. The following 4-6 week Touch Up Session should not take anymore than 1-1.5 hours.
How long does it last?
That all depends on the type of service you choose to get. Microblading typically lasts anywhere from 12-18 months, but the longevity of the pigment will depend on your skin type. Oily skin types will need more frequent touch ups as well as clients that spend a lot of time in the sun, as the sun tends to bleach out the brows. Powder and Combo Brows on the other hand do typically last longer and fade more evenly. You can expect to get anywhere from 18-24 months out of those techniques.
how do i Know which service to get?
The best way to choose between services is to come into the salon for a quick consultation or at least a phone consult consisting of pictures of your own natural brows and also pictures of the look you are wanting. That way I can help to guide you with your decision in making the best choice for you and your skin type. Choosing between which service to get done really comes down to what look you are trying to achieve. If you are wanting to create a natural, light, hairstroke-look then Microblading is probably the route to go. Microblading alone will not achieve a “makeup look”, it’s meant solely to create “little hairs” but also give you the ability to add makeup for a more dramatic look. If you are wanting darker, fuller, more of a “makeup look” then Powder or Combo Brows is what you are looking for.
how do i take care of my new brows?
Aftercare treatment contributes to about 60% of the treatment process. Following proper Aftercare Instructions accurately will give you the best possible results and promote good healing. Once again, the Nurse in me falls out because this next point I cannot stress enough; ALWAYS make sure you wash your hands before you touch your new brows. Making sure your hands are clean before completing your aftercare will ensure that you are giving your new brows the best possible chance of remaining infection-free. Everything you will need to properly care for your brows is provided in your aftercare kit along with written instructions as to how to care for your brows.
Brow do's & don't's
-
NO TOUCHING- DO NOT PICK, POKE, SCRATCH OR ITCH AT BROWS!!
-
NO SWEATING- This is one of the most important things to avoid because salt water is a killer to Microblading. Saline solution is actually used to remove old Microblading pigment so avoid excess sweating for 3-5 days. Although I don't recommend it, if you must sweat excessively (i.e. you work outside, you must go to the gym, etc.,) please take precautions like wearing a sweatband or a hat to keep your brow are as free from sweat as possible.
-
NO SUN- Avoid sun exposure (this includes tanning beds) on newly Microbladed area for at least 5-7 days. if you must be in the sun, wearing a hat and using a daily SPF on your brows is essential during the summer months. Your brows are an investment so it is important to take care of them to get the most longevity out of them.
-
NO CHEMICALS- Avoid using any harsh chemicals on newly Microbladed area. Use the specially formulated cleanser and moisturizer provided in your aftercare kit but steer clear of any anti-aging, retinols, harsh cleansers/exfoliants, anti-acne, etc., products on or near brow area until brows have fully healed. Once healing is complete, be careful using any products containing Glycolic or Lactic Acid over Microbladed area as it will cause pigment to fade. Face makeup is okay to use, but once again, avoid using any makeup products on brow area until fully healed to avoid infection. Also make sure your makeup brushes/beauty blender is clean when applying makeup around freshly Microbladed brows to ensure no bacteria from your makeup tools cause an infection.
-
NO STEAM- No saunas, hot tubs, steam facials or long, steamy showers until brows have fully healed. Once again, this can cause you to sweat the pigment out.
-
NO WATER- No hot tub, jacuzzi, swimming in chlorinatd pools, the ocean or any other recreational body of water until brows are healed.
-
NO FACIAL PROCEDURES- No facials, chemical peels, Botox or fillers, laser resurfacing, Microdermabrasion, etc., until brows are fully healed.
-
NO FACE SLEEPING- Avoid sleeping on your face if at all possible to facilitate the best healing results.
Am i a good candidate for Microblading?
This is a very hard question to answer in general. Healthy, clear and normal skin type is the ideal skin type for any of our services offered but understandably, this is not everyone's situation. If the skin is not healthy, then it will not heal well and will not retain the pigment properly. Clients with acne-prone skin, scars, keloids, previous tattoo or Microblading, rosacea, psoriasis and other skin conditions would most benefit from an in-person consultation to determine if they are a candidate. Oily skin types with large pores are more suited towards Powder Brows. Pregnant and Breastfeeding mama's should wait until they are done nursing to have any services done or providing they get the "Go Ahead" from their OBGYN/Primary Care Physician. Chemotherapy/Radiation patients need to be off treatment for at least 6 months due to their immunocompromised state. Clients with Alopecia, hair loss or scarring are welcome to have the procedures done at any time during their hair loss.
I have already had microblading/ brow Tattooing done before, can i come to you for a touch up?
The easiest way for me to answer that question is, maybe. A lot of other artists do not work over other artist's work simply because we have no idea what was used or how the process was done the first time around. This is not really considered a "Touch Up", it is actually more of a correction. The issue with not knowing what products were used on you the first time is that I may not know how to properly correct the old pigment without knowing what it was. If your brows end up turning a strange color due to a reaction between the old and new pigments, then I am liable for something that really is not my fault. The best way for me to decide if I can accept you as a new client whilst correcting someone else's work is through an in-person consultation. Going from there I can take a proper look at the previous work and decide if I am willing to try to correct it, so in other words, it is not a definite yes or no. This kind of "Touch Up" is not the same as the 4-6 week Touch Up and essentially may need another session to fully correct old work. Therefore, Correction "Touch Up" Sessions cost more than the 4-6 week Touch Up Session and you will be quoted that price at the consultation.
why is the touch up not included?
I used to include the Touch Up Session within my price but unfortunately I had to stop due to clients not adhering to the mandatory 4-6 week rule. Your Touch Up Session is mandatory to ensure the best possible results for your brows and is best done 4-6 weeks after the initial session. Due to clients not showing up for appointments, cancelling last minute, and wanting me to still provide complimentary Touch Up Sessions outside the 4-6 week period, I could no longer afford to waste time and money by doing things this way. So what I have done is lowered the prices of my services to exclude the Touch Up Session price to ensure that clients stick to their Touch Up Appointments and I am not losing that time that could be spent making someone else's brow dreams come true.
